The “Rally for Reform, March for Our Lives” event was held on Saturday at City Hall, where Thomas rallied with local students in advance of a bus trip to an anti-violence rally in Washington, D.C. later this month.
At the rally, Thomas said that "young people from Mount Vernon were present, holding signs like #NeverAgain and #AmINext to show their frustration with government’s failure to act after past tragedies."
"Many of the young people that spoke, demanded that Parkland, Fla. be the last school shooting our country should ever endure," Thomas stated. "They voiced their frustration with music and spoken words. The city will continue to hold rallies and sign-up individuals to join (the Thomas administration) as we travel to Washington, D.C. for the March 24th “Rally for Our Lives”.
Among those that attended the rally include Congressman Eliot Engel, Councilwoman Delia Farquaharson, as well as representatives from the offices of Sen. Chuck Schumer and Westchester County Executive George Latimer. Comedian J.B. Smoove also sent a message of support to the students from afar.
